Dear St. Libory Parent,

    The first ‘Back to School Sales’ advertisements began in July already and the day to open the schoolhouse doors is near.  We appreciate the confidence you place in us when sending your child(ren) each day, and we will do everything possible to maintain that trust.  Meeting No Child Left Behind’s Adequate Yearly Progress will be more challenging than ever with the increase in percentages but we certainly more than exceeded the requirements last year.  Overall (writing results still not reported) we have approximately 92% Meets or Exceeds Standards!

    School begins for students on Wednesday, August 18th. Please note school will only be in session that day from 7:55am-8:55am. It is hoped that this time will allow the students and teachers to get “settled in”, and also allow for fine-tuning of the bus route.  The bus route will be similar to last year’s because the route proved to be convenient and efficient.  Feel free to contact the office for individual concerns.

    Once again school will begin at 7:55am.  PLEASE NOTE that students will be considered tardy if they arrive after 8:00am.  Dismissal time will be 2:50pm.

    Days of absence in excess of ten (occurring at any point) during the school year will be excused with only a note or telephone call from a parent giving a valid excuse for the student’s absence.  Absences accompanied by verification are not considered part of these 10 days.  When a student has more than ten days of excused absence as the result of only a parent call or note, verification will be required for an excused absence.  Verification may include but is not limited to doctor’s note or receipt, dentist’s note or receipt, obituary note or newspaper clipping.  Without such verification the absence will be considered ‘unexcused’.  No credit will be given for class work assigned and/or completed during the time of absence and these days will be truant.

    In order to help maintain a positive school climate inside the classrooms, the following dress guidelines have been established.  Your assistance is appreciated.  Students are expected to present an appearance that does not disrupt the educational process or interfere with the maintenance of a positive teaching/learning climate.  Dress and/or grooming which is not in accord with reasonable standards of health, safety, modesty, and decency will be considered inappropriate.  Specific examples are as follows;

· Attire which promotes obscenity, denigration of others, offensive language, drugs, tobacco products, or alcohol is unacceptable.

· Hats are not to be worn in the school, except for a medical or religious purpose. Students wearing a hat will be warned the first time, and the second time the hat will be taken and returned at the end of the school year.

· No clothing considered to be revealing will be allowed. This would include, but not be limited to, bare midriffs, certain holes in clothing, and low cut tops. Skirts and shorts are to be no shorter than a student’s longest fingertip when they are standing with their arms at their sides.

· Pants should not sag excessively nor expose undergarments.

· Shirts having bare backs, one-shoulder, or spaghetti straps may not be worn.

These guidelines apply to all students, boys and girls. First time offenders will be given the option to change into other clothes or otherwise remedy the situation. Disciplinary action will be taken with repeat offenders.

    Other items- Please sign the acknowledgment slip indicating that you received the Student-Parent Handbook and return the slip to the teacher.  Lunch prices for this year: $1.80 for K-4 and $2.00 for 5-8. If you believe you qualify for reduced or free lunch, please fill out the form and return it to your child's teacher.  Picture Day is scheduled for September 1st.  All students will need a pair of separate tennis shoes for inside PE with white soles.  Note: Book fee of $58 is due September 3rd.  Whenever you have any questions, please feel free to call the school office.

                                                                                                        Sincerely,
